Without a Voice, Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor Sean Carter Spreads Powerful Message on US Tour
Dallas, June 1, 2010 – Traumatic Brain Injury survivor and unofficial spokesperson, Sean Carter, along with his mother, Jenny Carter, embark on a two-month, 5,000 mile journey across the United States to spread awareness about risky behavior and garner support for the brain-injured community.
Sean lost his ability to walk and talk in a drunk driving accident, but, together his and
his mother’s words have touched thousands through presentations made over the past
three years in their home state of Texas.
“I know there is a reason I didn't die in the truck that night. One of the things I have chosen to do to make this life liveable is to ensure no one else has to live like I do,” Sean says. Sean is able to communicate using a computer that “speaks” the words he types.
The focus of Sean and Jenny’s trip is to gain sponsors for their Non-Profit organization
and to reach out to groups through inspirational, interactive presentations. One of the
speeches Sean and Jenny will give on their 25-city trip is at Pilot International’s Annual
Summit on July 10 to members from over 31 countries, dedicated to "Protecting Brains
for Life.” Sean and Jenny have presented their story in over 70 venues to Government officials, Trauma/EMS personnel, various service organizations, schools and churches.
Sean and Jenny will also visit Washington D.C. where they will meet with a U.S senator to introduce new legislation that will benefit the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) community. An important advocate for the TBI community, Sean was selected by state government officials as one of the 22 members of the Texas Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council. They have also testified for sobriety checkpoints in Texas before the Senate Committee on Transportation and Home and Security. Sean was selected as Survivor of the Year (2009) by the Brain Injury Association of Texas. Both Jenny and Sean received "The Making a Difference Award" by the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Sean and Jenny are also in the midst of establishing non-profit status for WhenSeanSpeaks, INC., a foundation that will ultimately provide funding for research opportunities to help people with Traumatic Brain Injury escape the bounds of their physical and/or cognitive disabilities. During the trip they will visit with top management at small and large companies to discuss corporate sponsorship opportunities.

“Our goal is to touch lives with encouragement that you can overcome obstacles with faith and perseverance; to talk to people about living with the consequences of your actions; to share our story of the effects of alcohol and driving; and, to address (and overcome) obstacles to living in a wheelchair when you can’t talk!”
